In Print : A Cry for Help (DNA, September 7, 2008)

“I wish I were dead.”

These startling words were spray-painted onto one of the walls of a suburban London theatre. A concert had just concluded and many more popular acts were scheduled to come. And here was this message.What seemed like graffiti wasn’t really a message of hate or anger, like you would usually expect. It wasn’t an ‘I wish you were dead’ or ‘Go back to where you came from’. No, this was a cry of despair, of someone saying, “Help me!” When all you have is a scrawl on a wall, where do you start looking?
