Being a success at freelance writing is all about numbers. The more ideas you send out, the bigger your response rate. At the start of this year, I had signed up for Kristen King’s Query Challenge (now defunct, sadly), where participants committed themselves to sending at least 120 queries by December end.
It is now early November. Even with moving countries, travel, setting up house all over again and the nitty-gritties that accompany such a life change (not to mention a forthcoming baby!), I have reached a lovely 115 queries as of today, for 2008. That’s a major, major change from last year, where I ended with, ahem, a grand total of 46 queries. If that isn’t progress…
I’m already lining up ideas for 2009. But with the new baby on its way, I’ll probably have to curb my enthusiasm (really, how bad can it be, huh?)
